Our History

DVE Water Polo logo NEW.png

DVE Aquatic was created after the Greensborough pool was closed and re-developed (approx. 2010).  Pat Southwell was the President of the Diamond Valley swimming club at that time.  He approached other swimming clubs in the area with the view to form a new club that provided Swimming, Water Polo, Diving and Life Saving.  Only the Eltham swimming club were keen to join, and so DVE was launched as an acronym of Diamond Valley (DV) and Eltham (E).

Andrew Gilchrist started the Water Polo arm of DVE, and it quickly grew to over 100 members including juniors and seniors.

His 'tenure culminated in our 16/u Boys winning the bronze medal at the 16/u National Championships in 2019.  Apart from the pride I feel for where DVE water Polo started and where we are now (annoying that Covid got in the way), I am happy to see DVE Water Polo achieving and still working with other clubs to promote the sport and give kids the opportunity to play. Not every kid wants to swim or be competitive but every kid loves to play keepings-off, throw a goal and have fun while exercising!

Finally, I was so pleased that I was able to create a 16/u Girls team.  At a time when girls usually drop out of sport, I found that to be one of my most satisfying experiences.  First season we lost every match by heaps.  The next season we were undefeated except for the Grand Final.  The connection, relationships and commitment from the girls was so good!'.
