The club attracted some well qualified coaches in all three activities and this resulted in two divers, who started at the club, representing Australia – Sean Panayi (1982 and 1986 Commonwealth Games) and Jodie Rogers (1994 Commonwealth and 1996 Olympic Games). The pool was only open during the summer months so the 3 activities had to find winter homes at local pools.

During the 1970s the club financed the building of club rooms on the site and contributed to the pool becoming one of the early Metro outdoor pools to be heated.

The Eltham Swimming Club was formed in the 1980’s with the opening of an indoor Leisure Centre in Eltham which had a 25m pool. The club quickly established itself with a strong swimming membership and some well qualified coaches.

There had been several failed attempts to replace the Greensborough outdoor pool with an indoor facility dating back to the early 1990s. This finally came to fruition around 2007 and work then started to close the outdoor pool in 2008 and replace it with a 50m indoor competition pool plus other aquatic and dry area facilities. Due to the nature of the facility there was no room for a deep pool or diving boards. The then Diamond Valley President, Pat Southwell, was an integral member of the replacement pool management committee, and the only swimming club representative. Diamond Valley club was aware that there would be interest from many local clubs to utilise the new indoor facilities so they made enquiries with two local clubs to see if they were interested in merging. Eltham Swimming Club were interested in doing so, and 12 to 18 month discussions took place as to how the new club would operate. The two clubs then merged in 2012 to coincide with the new pool (Watermarc) opening to form the DVE Aquatic Club. The intention was to continue with Swimming, Diving, and Life Saving activities. In addition there was strong interest from both clubs to introduce Water Polo and Eltham had coaches keen to support this activity and the pool depth was suitable for the sport.

Since the formation of the club 3 past members have gone on to represent Australia – Jarrod Gilchrist (2016 Olympics - Water Polo), Matthew Temple ( 2020 and 2024 Olympics, 2022 and 2026 Commonwealth Games - Swimming), Tara Kinder (2026 Commonwealth Games).

In summary the club activities have been based on a combination of the history of activities, the current facilities available, and the interest and availability of good coaches. It is noticeable that the Life Saving activity has ceased due to lack of instructors and the Water Polo activity has almost as many participants as Swimming.
